Harlem Ice Synchronized Skating Coach

Position Description: Figure Skating in Harlem is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and enthusiastic synchronized skating coach for the 2025–2026 season. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in synchronized skating, a working knowledge of the International Judging System (IJS), and a passion for mentoring young skaters (typically ages 12–18). This position plays a critical role in creating a positive team culture while building a competitive, skill-focused, and disciplined environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute age- and level-appropriate training plans aligned with USFS standards for synchronized skating at the Open Juvenile level
  • Choreograph programs that strategically maximize points under the IJS system and emphasize musicality, creativity, and team unity
  • Lead regular on-ice practices and off-ice conditioning sessions (schedule to be determined collaboratively)
  • Provide constructive individual and group feedback to skaters, supporting both technical growth and teamwork
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and motivating environment for skaters of varying experience levels
  • Communicate regularly with parents, team managers, and club leadership
  • Oversee and manage the team during travel and at competitions (local, sectional, and potentially national events)
  • Ensure compliance with SafeSport and all USFS policies
  • Collaborate with other club coaches and staff to support skater development and retention

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience coaching or competing in synchronized skating
  • Deep understanding of the IJS judging system as it applies to synchronized skating
  • Proven experience working with youth athletes ages 12–18; must be approachable, patient, and positive
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills
  • Experience in choreography, program construction, and technical element development
  • Must hold current USFS membership and Coaches' ICE coaching compliance credentials (including background check, SafeSport training, and continuing education credits)
  • Availability to attend all practices, competitions, and team events throughout the season
  • Ability to travel with the team and work flexible hours as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coaches' ICE accreditation
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Experience working collaboratively with assistant coaches, managers, and club boards
  • Past competitive coaching record at the sectional or national level
