Summer Dreams Enrichment Teacher
Position Overview
The Summer Dreams Enrichment Teacher delivers engaging, hands-on learning experiences for students within a nonprofit youth development summer program. This role focuses on facilitating expeditionary, project-based learning using a pre-developed curriculum, while reinforcing social-emotional growth and positive youth development.
The Enrichment Teacher creates a structured, supportive environment where students actively participate in learning, reflect on their experiences, and build skills through both classroom activities and field-based experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation & Instruction
- Facilitate daily enrichment lessons using provided curriculum grounded in expeditionary and experiential learning.
- Lead engaging, interactive activities that promote critical thinking, collaboration, and curiosity.
- Extend and connect learning from field trips through guided discussions, reflection, and project-based activities.
Student Supervision & Engagement
- Supervise students during all program components, including classroom time, conditioning/fitness, arts and crafts and transitions.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging environment that supports active participation.
- Support student engagement across a range of activities, ensuring inclusion and positive group dynamics.
Field Trip Support
- Supervise and actively engage students during off-site field trips.
- Reinforce learning objectives during and after trips through discussion and reflection.
- Ensure student safety, accountability, and adherence to program expectations.
Behavior Management & SEL Integration
- Manage student behavior using a holistic, social-emotional learning (SEL)-aligned approach.
- Build strong relationships with students and model positive communication and conflict resolution.
- Support students in developing self-awareness, responsibility, and teamwork skills.
Supervision
- Supervises Junior Counselors during program activities
- Provides direction to Counselors during field trips and group-based activities
- Collaborates with program staff to ensure consistent expectations and student support
Work Schedule
- Seasonal position: July 6 – August 6
- Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM – 12:30PM
- Occasional additional time may be required for planning or field trip coordination
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. Teaching experience or currently pursuing a degree in Education or related field preferred.
- Experience working with youth in educational or camp settings
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
- Ability to facilitate interactive, hands-on learning experiences
- Comfort supervising students in both classroom and off-site environments
Preferred Background
- Experience in youth development or nonprofit programming
- Familiarity with expeditionary learning or project-based learning models
- Background or interest in social-emotional learning (SEL) practices
- Strong communication and group facilitation skills
- Experience supporting diverse learners and creating inclusive environments
